Newcastle-born Watson attended Hornsey School of Art from 1977 to 1980, gaining a degree in fine art and art history. After college, he assisted the Rembrandt Brothers (Gered Mankowitz and Red Saunders) before working for Stiff Records, where he created cover images for Madness. From 1981 to 1987, he photographed for 'Smash Hits' and created cover images for the Pet Shop Boys. He subsequently directed many videos for the Pet Shop Boys, Rod Stewart, Chris Rea, Holly Johnson and Dusty Springfield, among others. His work is held in the permanent collections of the National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum, both in London.

Eric Watson is making a limited edition of prints from the National Portrait Gallery display available for purchase. These prints have been approved by Neil and Chris. The first prints available will be the images from the front and back covers of 'Pet Shop Boys Catalogue', ie. the 'Suburbia' portraits. These will be available as selenium toned silver gelatin prints 20" x 20" and will be limited to an edition of 25 of each. These images will be 1,500 each. For those not equipped with that kind of cash A3 sized Giclee prints will be printed in an edition of 50 at 100 each. The reproduction of the giclee prints is excellent and gives a more affordable alternative. More images will be available as the show opens. All images will be numbered and signed.
